In thermal and acoustic insulation work on roofs, walls and floors, the material filling the cavity has as much influence on final performance as the external layer build-up. Canafiber Intercapedine is the TecnoCanapa Bioedilizia® hemp-fibre solution designed specifically for this role, in both new construction and renovation.
What is Canafiber Intercapedine?
Canafiber Intercapedine is an insulating material made from industrial hemp fibre (85%) and polyester fibre (≤15%). It therefore combines the natural properties of hemp with the dimensional stability required for panel installation. Thermal-conductivity measurements are carried out in accordance with UNI EN 12667, the reference standard for characterising insulation materials.
Technical data by thickness
| Thickness (mm) | Density (kg/m³) | Thermal conductivity λ (W/mK) | U-value (W/m²K) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 40 | 30 | 0.039 | 0.836 |
| 60 | 30 | 0.039 | 0.585 |
| 80 | 30 | 0.039 | 0.450 |
| 100 | 30 | 0.039 | 0.366 |
| 120 | 30 | 0.039 | 0.308 |
To complete the technical picture, Canafiber Intercapedine has a specific heat capacity of 1,700 J/kgK, a water-vapour diffusion resistance factor µ ≤ 2.0, sound absorption of 0.70 (Class C) and Euroclass C-s2,d0 reaction to fire. The panels are available in 1100 × 600 mm format, with pack sizes varying according to thickness.
Applications: roofs, walls and floors
Canafiber Intercapedine is designed for thermal and acoustic insulation of roofs, walls and floors in both new construction and renovation. It is compatible with any type of building system, from traditional concrete construction to steel or timber structures. The product’s qualities are best expressed, however, when the cavity is integrated into a layer build-up that is coherent with the rest of the construction system.
Combination with Bio Beton® and Biomattone®
The unique qualities of Canafiber Intercapedine are enhanced, for example, when it is combined with breathable, water-vapour-permeable solutions such as Bio Beton® and Biomattone®. This combination is already used in TecnoCanapa Bioedilizia® internal lining walls, where the hemp-fibre cavity insulation reduces the thickness required for the same insulating capacity.
Why choose Canafiber Intercapedine?
In summary, Canafiber Intercapedine can absorb noise, regulate humidity, help prevent condensation and mould, and reduce indoor temperature fluctuations. The panels are easy to install and contain no hazardous substances that could irritate the skin or respiratory tract.
Frequently asked questions about Canafiber Intercapedine
Is Canafiber Intercapedine suitable for all types of construction?
Yes. It is compatible with traditional concrete systems and with steel or timber structures, in both new construction and renovation.
What is the difference between the available thicknesses?
The thicknesses from 40 to 120 mm maintain the same density and thermal conductivity, while progressively reducing the U-value and improving insulation for the same surface area.
Why combine Canafiber Intercapedine with Biomattone® or Bio Beton®?
The combination makes it possible to reduce overall thickness for the same insulating capacity, thanks to the low thermal conductivity of hemp fibre.
